Fuck the Dropdown Menu

[Redacted-1]: So we're trying to figure out how to "do gender right." At first, we wanted to pretend that gender wasn't an issue and not ask for it at all. But then we realized most people still tend to have strong gender biases when they decide who to fuck. So now we're asking for it, and there are common categories, but you can define someone's gender however you want, or you can just as easily not define it at all.
[Redacted-2]: That reminds me of how the hospital handles race. Medically, race is significant -- people with white skin are more likely to get melanoma than people with black skin, so it needs to be recorded. But if it shows up as significant in politics, power, or how people are treated, then that's really not okay.
[Redacted-1]: Oh god. Race. We weren't even going to touch that.
[Redacted-2]: You're going to pretend that people don't fetishize black men's cocks?
[Redacted-1]: They can tag it if they want to. But you're right -- if Gender is significant enough to ask about, then what about all the other categories that are just as significant to lots of people... Like religion.
[Redacted-2]: And weight.
[Redacted-1]: And height.
[Redacted-2]: And income.
[Redacted-1]: And these are all the awful questions that all those awful dating websites ask, and that's why we were trying to avoid it.
[Redacted-2]: What are you gonna do?
[Redacted-1]: We're gonna do gender right.
